LPO Academy

The LPO Academy music mentorship program provides New Orleans youth the opportunity to intensively study instrumental music in one-on-one and small group settings with a Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Music Mentor. The program partners with existing music ensemble programs in the Greater New Orleans area to offer this service to students as part of their regular school day.

LPO mentors help students learn music theory, instrument technique, and other ways to connect with music and harness the mental, physical, and creative prowess critical to healthy youth development. In addition to weekly instruction, students in the program participate in performance opportunities in collaboration with students from other LPO Academy sites, in local festivals and/or LPO concerts. LPO Academy students and their families also receive special opportunities to attend concerts, masterclasses, and events with guest artists.

We are looking for instrument donations for our 2024-2025 school year!

LPO Academy is made possible through the generosity of the Gia Maione Prima Foundation.

LPO Academy takes place at multiple partner sites around the Greater New Orleans area:

Our LPO Academy mentors include:

Jon Gannon, horn
Jeanne Jaubert, cello
Paul Macres, bass
Catherine Matushek, viola
Michael Matushek, bassoon
