Recognized by his “powerful tone” and “effortless performance” (International Trumpet Guild Journal, 2016), Louisiana native Alex Mayon is currently the Acting Principal Trumpet with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr. Mayon has also performed with the New World Symphony and Baton Rouge Symphony. Recently, he has been runner-up for positions in the Columbus Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, and he was also a finalist for positions in the London Symphony, Chicago Lyric Opera, Richmond Symphony, Charleston Symphony, and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
In the summer of 2019, Alex attended Music Academy of the West, studying with Barbara Butler, Charlie Geyer, and Paul Merkelo. While there, Mr. Mayon competed and won a position to study and perform with the London Symphony Orchestra through the Keston MAX program.
Mr. Mayon has also performed at other summer programs including Maverick Concerts, Caroga Lake Music Festival, Marrowstone Music Festival, Chosen Vale, and Music Inspire Africa. He was the winner of the 2016 International Trumpet Guild Orchestral Excerpts Competition and two-time winner of the Loyola University Concerto/Aria Competition.
Alex maintains a private trumpet studio and has played for numerous weddings and events in New Orleans. Studying with James Thompson, Alex holds a Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he was the Teaching Assistant for the Eastman Brass Guild. He also studied with Dr. Nick Volz at Loyola University New Orleans, earning his Bachelor of Music Education degree. Aside from trumpet, Alex enjoys playing piano, running, weightlifting, hiking, and traveling.
