Kevin Murphy *

A member of the LPO since 2022, violinist Kevin Murphy received his MM degree from the Rice University Shepherd School of Music as a student of Kathleen Winkler. He attended both the UNC School of the Arts high school and undergraduate programs, studying with Ida Bieler and Kevin Lawrence. In the summers of 2015 and 2016, Kevin performed with the Aspen Festival Orchestra and Aspen Chamber Symphony under a full scholarship from the Thomas S. Kenan Institute, studying with Naoko Tanaka of the Juilliard School. He studied abroad at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf in Germany in 2013, where he learned German and researched the music of Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. Additionally, in 2019, Kevin joined the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra for a tour of northern Germany, collaborating with such conductors as Christoph Eschenbach and Manfred Honeck.
Kevin is also an experienced and committed violin teacher, and his students have received numerous honors, including scholarships to the University of Houston Moores School of Music and the UNT College of Music. In his free time, Kevin enjoys chess and learning languages.
