Ryan Turano*

Ryan Turano is the acting contrabassoonist for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Hailing from Hopkinton, Massachusetts, Ryan began playing the bassoon at the age of 12. He recently earned his Master of Music degree at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Richard Beene. Previously, he earned his Bachelor of Music with Richard Svoboda at the New England Conservatory. Other notable teachers include Donna Taub and Peter Unterstein. As an active freelancer in Boston, Ryan has performed with many ensembles, including the Eureka Ensemble, Kendall Square Orchestra, and Du Bois Symphony orchestra. Ryan has appeared in multiple summer festivals, including the Tanglewood Music Center, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Buzzards Bay Music Festival. In May of 2023, Ryan won first prize in the Sherman Walt Merit Competition. As an orchestral musician, Ryan has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in South America and Europe, including the Berlin Konzerthaus, Dvorak Hall, the Mozarteum, the Zoltán Kodály Center, the Musikverein, and the Concertgebouw.
