Recognized by his “powerful tone” and “effortless performance” (International Trumpet Guild Journal, 2016), Louisiana native Alex Mayon is currently the Acting Principal Trumpet with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr. Mayon has also performed with the London Symphony, Arizona Musicfest Festival Orchestra, Alabama Symphony, New World Symphony, and Baton Rouge Symphony. Recently, he has been runner-up for positions in the Columbus Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, and San Antonio Symphony, and he was also a finalist for positions in the London Symphony, Chicago Lyric Opera, Richmond Symphony, Charleston Symphony, and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mr. Mayon has performed at various summer programs including Music Academy of the West, Maverick Concerts, Caroga Lake Music Festival, Marrowstone Music Festival, Chosen Vale, and Music Inspire Africa. At Music Academy of the West, he was selected along with eleven other fellows to perform with the London Symphony Orchestra. He was also the winner of the 2016 International Trumpet Guild Orchestral Excerpts Competition and two-time winner of the Loyola University Concerto/Aria Competition.
Alex maintains a private trumpet studio in New Orleans. Alex holds a Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with James Thompson and was the Teaching Assistant for the Eastman Brass Guild. He also studied with Dr. Nick Volz at Loyola University New Orleans, earning his Bachelor of Music Education degree. Aside from trumpet, Alex enjoys playing piano, running, weightlifting, hiking, and traveling.
