Carlos Miguel Prieto returns to the podium for a compelling program of 20th-century orchestral works. The evening opens with Revueltas’s Suite from Redes, rich in rhythmic vitality and cinematic color, followed by Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2, a work of lyricism and sharp-edged brilliance featuring violin soloist Aubree Oliverson. Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 brings the program to a powerful close, its sweeping drama and emotional intensity offering a monumental conclusion under Prieto’s leadership.
