Violinist Erina Buchholz joined the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra as concertmaster in September 2026.
Erina has performed as concertmaster with the New World Symphony, Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra, and Indiana University orchestras and has appeared as a guest concertmaster with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. She has had the privilege of serving as concertmaster under the batons of many leading conductors, including Andris Nelsons, Stéphane Denève, and Manfred Honeck. During her fellowship with the New World Symphony, Erina was praised for her performance of the solo violin part in Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 under Maestro Honeck, with the South Florida Classical Review noting her “accuracy and finely supple musicianship.” She was concertmaster of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra from 2023 to 2025, as well as assistant concertmaster of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and a section violinist with the Owensboro Symphony.
In addition to orchestral performance, Erina is equally passionate about chamber music collaboration. In 2026, she was a member of the guest quartet-in-residence for the Haydn in Hattiesburg festival. She has also performed chamber music through the Discovery Music Series at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana. During her studies at Indiana University, she collaborated with clarinetist Gábor Varga in performances of new works by Hungarian composers, including two world premieres. At the New World Symphony, she performed chamber music with clarinetist Jon Manasse and was featured alongside flutist Claire Chase in a performance of Bach's Triple Concerto for Flute, Harpsichord, and Violin.
Erina graduated from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with highest distinction as a Herman B Wells Scholar. She studied with Kevork Mardirossian, Alexander Kerr, and Joel Smirnoff and received extensive chamber music coaching from Futaba Niekawa, the Pacifica Quartet, and Emile Naoumoff. Erina began her musical studies in her hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with Borislava Iltcheva, Stefka Madere, and Jennifer Cassin. She was named a 2018 U.S. Presidential Scholar by the U.S. Department of Education.
