Hunter Gordon

Originally from Port Angeles, Washington, Hunter Gordon was appointed Principal Bassoon of the Louisiana Philharmonic in September 2024. Prior to this, he performed for multiple seasons as a contracted member of both the Buffalo Philharmonic and Charlotte Symphony. He has performed and toured internationally with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra throughout London, Europe (France, Hungary, Switzerland), and Asia (China and South Korea). Additional performances include guest principal with the symphonies of Houston, Memphis, Charleston (SC) and Jacksonville (FL), as well as freelance work with the Kansas City Symphony, Florida Orchestra and Houston Grand Opera.
During the summer seasons, he served as Principal Bassoon of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in 2023, in addition to performances with the Breckenridge Music Festival, Artosphere Festival Orchestra and Lakes Area Music Festival. He studied at the Oberlin Conservatory and Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, and is grateful to his primary teachers Benjamin Kamins, George Sakakeeny and Otto Eifert. Hunter can be heard on recordings for Deutsche Grammophon with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, such as A Beethoven Journey: the Complete Symphonies with Gábor Takács-Nagy, Simon Rattle in Verbier: Beethoven Symphony No. 3 in E-Flat Major, Op. 55 “Eroica”, and Portraits of the Verbier Chamber Orchestra: Schumann Symphony No. 3 in E-Flat Major Op. 97 “Rhenish” with Gabor Takács-Nagy, in addition to recordings for Naxos with the Buffalo Philharmonic and JoAnn Falletta.
