Peter Dutilly joined the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra viola section in the 2022/2023 season after filling a 1-year appointment with LPO in the 2019/2020 season. A native of Rhode Island, Peter’s family later moved to Florida where he pursued all of his collegiate training, earning two Bachelor of Music degrees in viola performance and music composition at Jacksonville (FL) University. He completed his Master of Music degree in viola performance at Florida State University the same week he won a section viola position with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra (OPO), where he performed for eight seasons, including several seasons as Acting Assistant Principal Viola. While in Orlando, Peter performed with the Walt Disney World Candlelight Orchestra, the Jacksonville and Memphis symphonies, the Naples Philharmonic, and the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park. Peter has also held positions as Assistant Librarian with the OPO, bowing assistant with the LPO Music Library, Adjunct Instructor of Viola and Violin at Southeastern University in Lakeland Florida, conductor with the Metropolitan Area Youth Symphony, and chamber music coordinator with the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra. His compositions have been performed by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jacksonville University Orchestra and Chamber Singers, faculty and students at Jacksonville University, the Warwick (RI) Symphony Orchestra, the MAYS Repertory Orchestra, and Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra, the viola studio at FSU, and by members of the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra. When not performing or writing music, Peter enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with his fiancé Chad and their cats Poppy and George (Gershwin).
