Cellist Geunseon Han is set to join the LPO as a member in September 2024. Prior to this appointment, Han distinguished herself as a guest lecturer at Andrew College and served as an on-call cello faculty member during the summer semester at Michigan State University. Her artistic contributions extend beyond academia; she has performed such as the Chicago Civic Orchestra and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, she has been a vital member of orchestras in Michigan, including those in Midland, Battle Creek, Alma, Kalamazoo, and Ann Arbor. In Korea, she has performed with the KT Chamber Orchestra, the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, and the KBS Symphony Orchestra in a substitute capacity.
Han’s career as a chamber and orchestral musician has taken her to some of the world’s most celebrated venues, including Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Wharton Center for Performing Arts, the River Center for Performing Arts, the Fairchild Theatre, and Lotte Concert Hall. Her exceptional talent earned her fellowships at the Bowdoin International Music Festival and the Vienna Music Festival. She has also performing under renowned cellists such as Mark Kosower, Philip Muller, Jonathan Spitz, Jonathan Manson, Michael Reynolds, Bonnie Hampton, Young-Chang Cho, Aldo Parisot, and Wei-Yu.
Han has secured top honors in numerous competitions, including the New York International Artist Competition, the East Coast International Competition, and the Bach Competition at the Manhattan School of Music, along with various prestigious competitions in Korea. Han holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Seoul National University with Youngsook Yoon, and a Master of Music degree under the mentorship of Julian Lichten and Qiang Tu. She further distinguished herself by earning her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Michigan State University with a full scholarship, where she served as a teaching assistant under the guidance of Suren Bagratuni.
